The National Historic Cheesemaking Museum is located at the southern gateway to Wisconsin, just a few miles north of the Illinois/Wisconsin line. Our staff eagerly awaits your visit to tell the story of early cheesemaking gave Monroe the title of the “Cheese Capital of the USA.”

During your visit, invision how cheese was made in the century old Imobersteg Cheese Factory, relocated and restored on our grounds, and imagine how cheese was made over a century ago without today’s modern conveniences.

Each year on the second Saturday of June in recognition of “June Dairy Month”, join Master Cheesemakers and retired cheesemakers as they make a 90 pound wheel of Swiss cheese right before your eyes.Your visit to the museum also includes a video showing the cheesemaking process in today’s modern cheese factories and a gift bag in remembrance of your visit.
